CanvasPrints.com was founded in 2019 by Maddison Lake and sells custom canvas wall decor, hand stretched and hand finished in the United States. Its own landing page records more than one million units produced, more than twenty thousand reviews and one hundred percent domestic manufacture. The founder describes it as a leading wall decor brand in the direct to consumer home decor market, fully manufactured in house, and a top two ranked result in Google across dozens of commercially valuable keywords.

In December 2021 the company announced an expansion of 11.5 million dollars in taxable investment and 96 new jobs in Henderson County, North Carolina. That figure is recorded independently in the Henderson County Partnership for Economic Development's 2022 annual report, which makes it the best corroborated number anywhere in the company's record. CanvasPrints.com states that the expansion was completed in 2023, into a production facility at 145 Cane Creek Industrial Park Rd in Fletcher. By 2023 Lake Holdings employed more than 150 people.

In September 2024 Hurricane Helene put forty eight inches of water through that facility, in a building that was not in a flood plain. Tens of millions of dollars of equipment was lost, and what could be recovered sold at auction for roughly one percent of its real value. CanvasPrints.com has held a public landing page throughout, titled A Temporary Pause, But Not Goodbye, with a stated intention to reopen before Q4 2026.

Caveat

What is live at canvasprints.com is a landing page, not a storefront. The company states an intention to reopen before Q4 2026, and the unit, review and ranking figures above are the ones the business published about itself before the flood.

The strategic point

Why it mattered

CanvasPrints.com is the first business in the entire portfolio that manufactures rather than intermediates. Every venture before it stood between two other parties: reselling, brokering, building directories, generating leads or financing equipment. A print operation that stretches its own canvas in its own building owns its production, sets its own quality standard, and cannot be cut out by a customer who works out who the supplier is. After fifteen years of businesses whose defensibility rested on an information advantage, this is a business whose defensibility rests on making the thing.

It was capitalized accordingly. The 11.5 million dollar expansion is by a wide margin the largest verified capital commitment in the company's history, and it is one of the few figures in the entire record confirmed by a third party, a county economic development authority, rather than reported by the company about itself.
